“What is it like to be a teenager?”

2 words.

14 letters.

5 syllables.

It’s complicated.

Okay, so maybe it’s more than just complicated.

Life as a teenager in the 21st century is a mess. It’s the type of mess you leave sitting around your room before your mom tells you to clean it up. Everything in life as a teenager feels like a chore. You have to go to school. You have to get good grades. You have to be a role model. You have to be better than everybody else. There’s too many “you have to” and not enough “what do YOU want to do”.

It’s as if I’m stuck in a bubble.

I’ve been stuck in this bubble for about 15 years of my life. My whole life. Sure my parents allowed me to chase my dreams and shoot for the stars, but what about the rest of the world? They want us to be PERFECT.

I can’t step out of my bubble without being judged. One wrong move and that’s it. The bubble has been popped and I’m no longer floating.

Not like I was floating with joy before, but with the wrong step I could lose everything. The world put me into a bubble with no escape. Because society makes it impossible to just be YOU.

Truly and sincerely you.

The you that doesn’t have to apologize for being yourself. The you who can like whoever they want to like. The you who has a dream to step out of the Barbie shell they’ve made for us. We’re not robots, nor will we ever be. So please, stop trying to limit my imagination.

It’s also about experimentation. These are the years we get to experience life. To try out the test samples of what life has to give us. We get to learn, go out, and dream of what’s to come. We lose friendships. We gain friendships. We learn new things about ourselves and with that we hope for acceptance. Acceptance from our friends, families, and maybe even foes.

So yes, being a teenager is complicated.

But nothing good in life is ever easy

So as hard as people try to judge us, we try just as hard to ignore them and walk away.

“Teenagers are the most misunderstood people on earth. Treated like children but expected to act like adults.”

The Ultimate Potterhead Tag!

Hello wonderful people of the interwebs! So if you didn’t know, this weekend the Universal Orlando resort in Florida is having a their annual celebration for Harry Potter. It takes place from January 27-29.

“It’s the only official event where you can celebrate your love for Harry Potter™ and discover more about the Wizarding World. Take part in film talent Q&A sessions, access special panels and demonstrations, and discover many more surprises.”

I’m so grateful to my cousins who invited me to this event knowing very well that I am obsessed with Harry Potter. So in honor of the celebration being held this week I wanted to do a Harry Potter tag. To the wonderful original creators of this tag The Stylish Dreamer and Mahriya, thank you for allowing me to do it. Please if your not already following them go check out their blogs! 🙂

Hogwarts Sorting Quiz:

Raven claw traits are intelligent, wise, sharp, witty, and individual. I think most of us are very intelligent and wise but what I like most about being a Ravenclaw is that were individual. For me this means that I can rely on myself before I choose to rely on someone else. They also are not afraid to speak their mind which I think I’m very much like that.

I like to keep it real people!

My Patronus:

So… I’m not really quite sure how I ended up being a little bird but hey its cute! Though I never would have imagined that there’s actually a bird called Kingfisher…

Ilvermorny Sorting Quiz:

So basically ilvermorny is like Hogwarts but in America. I’m actually really happy with my ilvermorny house! Being a panther grants you the ability to move around swiftly and run at tremendous speeds so thats interesting.

My Wand:

As the proper owner of this wand, apparently I’m destined for it ooooooooo! And also the owner of this wand is adventurous! Honestly, I’m in love with cities I’ve never seen and places I’ve never been.

Now for a series of Potterhead Questions:

  • Why are you a Potterhead?

Because everything about the Harry Potter world is so magical and nothing like I’ve ever seen before. It was the one of the first books that allowed me the chance to escape reality for a bit.

  • When did you begin reading Harry Potter?

I started the series in about 6th grade and finished it in about 3 weeks. Once I started reading, it sucked me into this world and I couldn’t be more grateful 🙂

  • What were your thoughts before you read HP and after? Compare them!

Before: I watched the movies early on when I was little and they were so breathtaking to me. I never considered reading them because I had seen the movies first but I always was a little intimidated by how big they were.

After: I was in tears. I mean you feel so connected to the characters, like your Harry’s best friend as well. You go through the happy and the sad moments and when you reach the end its like all those memories catch up to you.

  • Did you read the books first or the watch the movies?

I saw the movies first cause my older cousin was obsessed at the time and she would always play the movies when she used to baby sit me.

  • Have you watched all the movies?

OF COURSE I HAVE! I love all of them so much that I own all the DVD’S, so whenever I want to relieve HP I just pull out a DVD and watch!

  • What’s the most Potter-ish thing you’ve done?

Probably insisting to everyone I know that I don’t need school. What I need is my acceptance letter from Hogwarts.

“Mom I swear the letter is going to be here any day now.”

  • Your thoughts on Cursed Child?

It was definitely fun to get back in this world again but at the same time it felt weird to read it has a script. I also felt like some of the original characters weren’t being themselves.

  • Favorite character and why?

Mrs.Weasley! She’s hilarious in the books and in the movies. She has this scene in the last movie where she’s fighting Bellatrix Lestrange and IT’S SO GREAT!

  • Favorite house and why?

Gryffindor because its where we first we get to see Harry in his natural element and also all of their friends seem so loyal and fun to be around.

  • Favorite book and Favorite movie?
  • l0hlaiiwxctsuibdi

I don’t know, its way to hard to decide cause all of them are my favorite!

  • Favorite scene/chapter?

In the last book when everybody thinks Harry is dead but then he wakes up like qub8aayj9dnqi

  • Favorite HP quote?

“It’s wingardium leviOsa, not leviosAH.”

– J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

  • Saddest death?

Dobby my beautiful free little elf and Dumbledore 😦

  • A scene or thing you would’ve changed in the HP books

I don’t think I would change anything from the books but I would like a new series, like maybe about the ilvermorny school of magic and a new set of kids with different adventures!

  • Did you ever expect to get a letter from hogwarts?

YES OF COURSE! I’m still waiting for it……

  • If you were a student in hogwarts, what subjects do you think you would be doing? And why?

Everything but potions cause I feel like I would just blow up the whole school by accident….

Yay! So this is the end of an amazing tag! I just want to thank the amazing creators again and I just had so much fun going back into the Harry Potter world even if it was for just a few seconds!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed,

A Trip to the Bookstore.

A store.

A place.

A marvelous bookcase.

Hello beautiful people of the interwebs! Today was more than amazing. I WENT TO BARNES AND NOBLES! Now, going to the bookstore used to be a common ritual of mine back when I was in middle school and I had zero responsibilities. But these days its seem as if the whole universe is against me and my favorite place. It’s either I can’t find the time or the money. Like, when did books get so expensive? So anyways what I’m trying to say is that going to the bookstore is like finding a unicorn. Its a rare thing.

Below is an actual representation of me when my mom told me she was going to buy me a new book:

The doors of a bookstore are like the doors to heaven.

When you walk in, you step into a different universe.

Does anybody else absolutely love the smell of books? It’s just so completely satisfying to open a book and smell the pages. Is that weird? Well I’m not really sure if it is, but what I do know is that, although going to a bookstore is marvelous, its the actual “picking out one book” part that drives me nuts.

The process of selecting the perfect book:

  • Previous research– This is key for selecting the perfect book when your only allowed to pick one. You want to make sure that this book will satisfy your needs until the next time you go to the bookstore.
  • Asking the right questions– You just picked up a book. You need to ask yourself if that is your best choice. Ex: What do other people have to say about this book? What rating does it have on goodreads? Do you really need this book? Why do you want this book?
  • Price– Most hardcover books are about 20 dollars. But if you get 2 soft cover books its the exact same price. What do you want to get, 1 hardcover or 2 softcover books?
  • Asking for help– So your stuck with 2 choices. When this happens I immediately look for guidance from my friends. I’ll also ask my mom which one sounds more interesting to her or which one she would choose

Finally when the perfect book is in my hand, I think that walking up to the counter is the hardest part of the whole experience. Or maybe its when you leave the book store, not knowing when your going to go back. You say farewell to the endless amounts of beautiful books, but its okay cause the new book in your hand deserves all the attention now.

Go read the new book, my heart says. Take all your responsibilities and lock them away to never be seen again.

I’m the type of person to stay up till 3 in the morning on a school night even though I have to be awake at 6 am. No matter how much I try to put the book down, I just can’t. “okay only 30 more minutes of reading and then ill go to sleep” and every time that ends I seem to add another 30 more minutes of reading. It’s a hard life man.

I think we all need a break sometimes, so if anybody would like to recommend a new book for me to read, that would be very much appreciated!

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading,

The Rant Girl

Me, you, and the whole wide web.

Hey wonderful people of the interwebs! So you probably don’t know this about me, but at school I take a speech and debate class where we talk about different topics each week. This week our topic was “Does technology make people less social?” Seeing as this platform is part of the social media community I thought what better than to discuss this topic on my blog!

So the definition of social is relating to, devoted to, or characterized by friendly companionship or relations. Many people believe that technology has made us less social human beings. I would have to respectfully disagree with that statement.

Technology has created a platform to interact and connect with people around the world through programs such as social media. Everyday I’m meeting new people. Whether its over the internet or in person, I get to engage in conversations all the same. Without technology I never would have made a blog, and I never would have engaged in a community so loving as this one. People against technology argue that being social is having face to face interactions. So just because I can’t see someone, it means that I’m not really talking to them?

No, because the definition of social in no way states that it needs to be face to face interaction.

No, because I’ve never been able to fully express myself then I have on this blog.

No, because this is me. This is the real me. Cause the face to face me doesn’t exist. At least not as real and genuine as the girl who writes a blog and gets the chance to talk to people all around the world.

Cause thats what technology has created. A platform to be yourself or anybody you want to be. The possibilities are endless. When our ancestors created the idea of social, their only way to define being social was through interactions.

But they never imagined what the future would be like.

We keep this idea of social because its all we’ve ever known. As our world has changed, new definitions of “social” are being created. The word social should no longer be confined to its traditional meaning. Everybody and everything in the world has the potential to be something amazing. It’s up to us to take a risk and try something new 🙂

“Potential means nothing if you don’t do anything with it.”

Equality for all.

Today is a magical day in history when we, the women around the world, fight against a man who will never deserve to be president and for the rights we so equally deserve. I have never been more proud to stand alongside my sisters around the world.

Yesterday my country allowed a man to gain power as the president of the United States of America. A man who has disrespected women and who has never apologized for his actions. A man who treats women like were nothing.

Like we don’t matter.

Like we don’t have a voice.

But we do have a voice, and we will keep using it until we get what we deserve.

“We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal. And when I meet Thomas Jefferson, I’m a compel him to include women in the sequel!”

He is #Notmypresident, nor will he ever be my president.

Today women everywhere are marching together to defend their bodies, their communities, and their families. Because we the people, have the power to change this. To march as a unity. We walk today standing up for what we know is right.

The constitution does not start with “Me the president”.

It starts with “We the people”.

So never settle with what they give you. If you don’t like it, go out and do something about it. It’s gonna take time like all good things in life, but if you believe in something then you need to say something.

“A platform of hate and division, assumed power yesterday.

But the president is not America.

His cabinet is not America.

Congress is not America.

We are America. And we are here to stay!” – America Ferrera, Women’s March

Buried under a pile of HW.

School is dreadful.

Teachers are unforgiving.

And my severe case of procrastination is not helping one bit.

Hello people of the interwebs! Today was a very rough day. In fact, this whole week has been totally gruesome if you ask me. With winter break ending and the amount of time I spend on my computer lessening, I’ve found it very hard to get back into my school routine.

So school, you would think that maybe the teachers would take it slowly the first few days and build up their curriculum as time goes on, but NO. They shove some papers in your face, and remind you that there’s a test the next class.

Like,  WHAT?   TEST?    QUIZ?   HW?

It’s all very confusing and alarming. I feel like time goes by so quickly when your in school. One moment I’ll be writing down the date for the chapter test and the next, I’ll be staying up late to cram for it the night before.

Everywhere I look, I see piles and piles of textbooks.

I can’t escape it.

I run, it follows.

Sometimes you just gotta accept it though.

So thats how I came to be buried alive under piles of HW and school work.

Anyways, I’m hopeful that in the next few weeks I’ll get back into my routine and not worry so much about school. To the people who are in school and are suffering as well, it’s okay, we’ll get through this together!

I hope you had a better week than me and don’t forget to always stay positive,

The Rant Girl 😉

My resolutions (A little bit late)

So it may or may not be a little too late to talk about my New Years Resolutions for 2017, but I want to be able to look back at these, so were just gonna roll with it. 2016 was definitely a rollercoaster with as many ups as there were downs. I learned that sometimes your plans aren’t exactly what you want them to be. In 2017, I want to be able to look at the bigger picture and stop worrying about the small things that aren’t going to matter in the years to come. So without further ado, I present my resolutions.

  1. Join the gym and eat healthier
  2. Read more books
  3. Get a job
  4. Go on an adventure with my best friend
  5. Get better at public speaking
  6. Make new friends
  7. Try something new

When I made this list on the 1st of January, I had no idea that I was going to start a blog. It was a sudden decision on my part and I really couldn’t be more thankful that I decided to take a leap of faith into an unknown territory. I can only hope that the rest of 2017 will show me places I’ve never been and people I’ve never met.

Acting as impulsively as ever,

The Rant Girl

Hidden Figures.

Wow. This movie was so unexpectedly amazing. It had heart, and soul, and most of all it had will. It embodies the idea of women empowerment and the fight for whats right.

If you haven’t already seen this movie, or have no clue what it’s about, please let me try my best to convince you to go see it.

This movie tells the true story about the brains behind NASA’s success into space. It starts off with 3 strong women of color in the 1960’s, who all have a job working for NASA. Throughout the movie the women are heavily discriminated against and deeply underestimated by the people around them. Against all of the odds these women still strive to be the best and never give up on their dreams.

It was so eyeopening to me because I never lived through that time period. I wasn’t alive when blacks where being discriminated against and had little to no rights. This movie puts you right into their shoes. When watching Hidden Figures, I questioned so many things about what kind of people lived in this time period. Why did they feel the need to bully others because of the color of their skin? I’ll never understand the answer to that question.

The women in Hidden Figures are so inspiring. They never once backed down. Even when they weren’t allowed to do this and that, they kept at it. All 3 of them were able to change the views of how people saw them. They broke through the barriers of women’s rights and racial rights.

Hidden figures is a story told to inform people that not everything is as it seems. It highlights the importance of every role that had a part in major events, like the first man to go into space. It was made to acknowledge overlooked heroines and tell their part of the story.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this review,

The Rant Girl

Why do I do this to myself?

Why can’t I be a normal human being that doesn’t finish their entire meal in the matter of seconds?

Whats worse is that I never seem to learn my lesson from the previous stomach aches. I mean I kind of deserve them for eating so fast but ughhh. It isn’t until the end of the meal, where I regret eating so much food, in so little time.

I just have no self restraint when it comes to food.

Did I forget to mention that one of my New Years resolutions was to eat healthier…..However if were gonna be honest here, the majority of people put that as their New Years resolution.  AND MOST OF THE TIME WE FORGET ABOUT IT.

Hey I’m not judging cause as I always say, I’m not perfect.

So food. Its delicious, although sometimes fattening. Like why can’t I eat whatever I want and not gain a few pounds?

Last weekend I made a batch of Nutella brownies, that were amazing by the way, and I ATE ALL OF THEM in the span of 3 days. I knew the consequences but I was still willing to take the risk.

What I don’t get is the people who eat whatever they want, whenever they want, and they don’t gain any weight? What is your secret? And this is excluding the people who actually exercise. I wanna be YOU (people who don’t get fat ever).

Now that I’ve already broken my New Years resolution I guess I’ll just have to live with myself, eating whatever I want.

Because when it comes to food you should never hold back. TREAT YO SELF.

Life is short. So I dare you to go out or stay in, and eat whatever the hell you want, then complain about your lack of self restraint, and then maybe go do something about it? Yah I’m not the person you should ask about health advice.

So goodbye, farewell, and don’t forget to eat whatever is in your sight,

The Rant Girl

this is confusing.

Lol it’s only been about an hour, but making a blog is hard. Not necessarily hard but mostly it’s confusing trying to create a space for my free thoughts. Anyways I think that all good things in life take a bit of effort so hopefully I’ll get the hang of it. Just so you know it’s about almost 1 in the morning but I’ve been sleeping all day so it’s okay (At least that’s what I tell myself). So this might have also been an excuse to show my adorable sleepy dog…..Alright I think now is the time to say goodnight, farewell, and I hope the rest of your weekend is as uneventful as mine 🙂

The Start of Something New

“Now who would have ever thought that, we’d both be here tonight”. Okay yikes I’m sorry if you’re not a fan of High School Musical, but please don’t kill me before I rightfully introduce myself.

So hello people of the internet. My name is IRRELEVANT but this blog (I hope) is nowhere near that.

I’ve decided to write this blog in the hopes I could be myself and only myself. I want to be able to connect with people because of our interests and obsessions. If you want to know more about me and my interests, check out my about page!

Also just because I like to rant a lot, doesn’t mean I want this blog to be just about that. I hope this blog is a way I could express myself without the judgement of others. Mostly I just want to document my life and have fun with it. 🙂

This also happens to be my VERY 1ST BLOG! It’s all very new and exciting for me.

So alas this is my very own public outlet where I’ll talk about the up’s and down’s of being a teenager in the 21st century.
